Underwater River in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula

After being on this earth for so many years, you’ll at least learn this one thing: Mother Nature will never stop surprising you. Take these pictures of a river, for example. Seems normal enough, right? Wait until you look close, though. You’ll realize that this river is underwater (and your mind will be blown). This little stream defies all logic and exists on the bottom of the ocean floor. Don’t believe it? If you visit the Cenote Angelita in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, you’ll see this (seemingly) impossible river for yourself.

A cenote is a water filled cave, and this one holds quite a surprise.

12 Kinds Of Everyday Objects Turned Into Playful Illustrations

Artist Victor Nunes combines every-day objects with simple illustrations to turn them into pictures of faces, animals and other playful scenes. His images invite us to look at the world differently and find creative images in our surroundings.

Nunes’ art is a great example of pareidolia, which is our propensity to give meaning to random objects (like in this post about seeing faces in random objects). It’s the reason why we associate a smiley face with a human face and why some of Nunes’ pieces of popcorn or bread resemble faces to us.

It’s a very natural reaction to have, and it’s a fun creative spark to run with. Quite a few artists have created similar works where they explore the things that they see in everyday objects – Tineke Merink photographs random locations and adds illustrations to them, and Javier Perezdoes the same with smaller objects.

Live Human Testing

In a brave and highly controversial movie, Lush cosmetics in the UK spent performing "Live Human Testing" in the window of their busy Regent Street store. The idea was part of their extensive campaign against animal testing in the cosmetics industry, and the apologetically bold move to turn the tables and use humans as subjects of these gruelling and graphic procedures certainly attracted a lot of media attention and divided the public right around the world. So what do you think? Was this too much, or something we all needed to see and understand?

"Live Human Testing" was set up in LUSH's Regent Street shop window in London.
